According to the legends, the festival of Bhogi is dedicated to Lord Indra, the God of rains & clouds. On this day, Lord Indra is worshipped by farmers to bless the land with prosperity, wealth & good rains.
Bhogi is the first day of the four-day Pongal Festival Makar Sankranti festival. It falls on last day of Agrahāyaṇa or Mārgaśīrṣa month of Hindu Solar Calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar, it is usually celebrated one day before Makar Sankranti.
